In 2018, Royce Gracie JiuJitsu Academy was founded with a simple mission: raise the physical confidence and overall wellness of students of all ages by teaching a complete and efficient self defense skill, set within a safe, clean, positive and respectful environment.

I had been practicing Jiu-Jitsu for many years and during that time, I noticed a big gap in the market. Despite the great popularity of Jiu-Jitsu in the UAE, I found that there was a lack of quality self defense instruction available. The focus was solely on sport and competition, rather than on practical self defense techniques for everyday people.
Feeling passionate about helping those who truly needed self defense, but may not have the physical abilities or attributes, I decided to take action. I set out to fill the gap by teaching a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu self defense program specifically tailored to the needs of non-athletic individuals, a program that was tailored to the needs of individuals who wanted to learn practical self defense skills for real-world situations.
I put my knowledge and experience in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu to use, creating a program that emphasizes practical self defense techniques that can be used in real-world situations.
I made sure to focus on teaching the foundations of the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu that was created by Grand Master Helio Gracie. A way that is easy to learn and execute, making our program accessible to people of all ages and fitness levels.
Two interesting facts about me:
- I am the first person worldwide to be certified as an instructor by the legendary Jiu-Jitsu Master Royce Gracie and,
- The first in the UAE to get promoted to Black belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
What Makes Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Different?
A strong aspect on personal development
Before we teach our students, particularly children, the physical self defense techniques, we develop their confidence first. We also teach them values such as accountability, responsibility, and respect, with their training partners and teachers.
An elaborate and comprehensive self defense curriculum
Our curriculum teaches a wide range of realistic and effective self defense techniques irrespective of the student’s age, size, gender, or fitness level. Furthermore, we also teach a verbal aspect of self defense, where you learn how to verbally deescalate a situation before a physical confrontation erupts.
Non - competitive
Our academy doesn’t teach Jiu-Jitsu as a sport, but as a lifestyle. Students in our academy are not expected to compete: Training is at their pace, and focuses on them learning and understanding the techniques, its principles, and application in realistic self defense scenarios – with no judge, rules, timer, or someone to help you.
Non-violent self defense techniques
Unlike most martial arts programs, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu doesn’t rely on striking the attacker with violent punches, kicks, knees, and elbows; all techniques taught are purely defensive and non-violent.
Students are also taught to never initiate physical aggression. However, if attacked, we offer techniques to non-violently neutralize the threat and gain control until help arrives.
